I arrived in Port Elizabeth yesterday after an all night flight from Munich to Johannesburg. A wee bit of turbulence on that flight but nothing i couldn't handle. Unfortunately, that flight was the beginning of how my day was to go. My seat was at the end of a section which meant I could not put my chair back down to rest. The inflight entertainment centre was not working for a few hours. But eventually, they got it up and running. Our flight was delayed leaving Munich which meant late arriving in Jo'burg. I was supposed to have close to 2 hours there but when I finally got into the terminal(the plane lands out in the landing area and a bus picks you up to take you to the terminal), there were HUNDREDS of people lined up at customs/immigration. I looked at my watch and had about 40 minutes to get through this line(fat chance) before my flight to Port Elizabeth departed!
With about 20 minutes left and still a couple of hundred people in front of me, they announced for anyone making domestic connections to jump to front of the line for processing. I did that, got through then had to navigate my way through the airport to the domestic terminal with about 10 minutes to spare! There was no gate noted on my boarding pass(thank goodness I had that done at Pearson) so had to stop and ask directions. Running through Jo'burg airport for my gate, I was sweating as temperatures outside were 27C and I had on work boots, jeans ,sweatshirt and jacket. And remember I had had these clothes on since FRIDAY!!
Made the plane and chatted with a lovely lady from Plattensburg Bay. She had a wonderfully calming effect on me.
Arrived at PE airport only to discover my luggage had never made it. I was picked up by the shuttle and taken to my B&B for the evening. Beachwalk B&B hosted by Clifford & Lea.
P1000032.jpg It was relaxing and met some nice people that had been in a cycling race here this weekend. Slept like a log until the sun came up at about 4:45AM but quickly fell back to sleep. Wonderful breakfast of juice, coffee, fresh fruit cup, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage.
Marni, my travel agent from Cape Town, was able to track down my luggage and apparently it arrived in PE last night and I will pick it up today when the shuttle takes me back there to meet my ride to Shamwari, where my real adventure begins!! I will be so happy to see the luggage and finally put on CLEAN clothes!!!
